With over 20 years experience in corporate restructuring and insolvency, George has been a partner at Ferrier Hodgson for 10 years. He has a broad experience base across many industries including pharmaceutical, aged care, manufacturing, petroluem retailing, gaming and hospitality.
George’s special skill is to quickly identify problems within a business and to find practical solutions. He is regularly brought into distressed businesses where his role is to identify the core problem, manage the situation or find a buyer. George is a specialist at dealing with high-pressure situations and keeping all stakeholders informed and engaged in the recovery process.
In 2008, George was appointed Voluntary Administrator of the Midas group which operated a network of automotive service centres across Australia. As part of a Deed of Company Arrangement the company was restructured and survives today with over 70 stores nationally. In 2009 George was appointed Receiver and Manager of the Mannway Group which at its peak was one of the 10 largest private transport operators in Australia.
Other key assignments have included:
- Administrator of Balgee Oil, Mobil’s third-largest distributor and one of the largest independent petroleum retailers in Australia with over 40 sites and depots. All unsecured creditors were paid out and there was a significant return to the secured creditor
- Joint Administrator to the Kliens group of jewellery retail outlets with over 190 retail speciality stores
- Adviser to a major financier on the restructure of a large chain of retail pharmacies
- Adviser to a major financier on its ability to recover a major loan portfolio
- Managed the environmental clean-up of a significantly contaminated site over five years
- Receiver and Manager of the Scots Church Development - a 140-apartment development
