James became a Partner of Ferrier Hodgson in 1994 and has been providing strategic and restructuring advice to clients since 1984.
James is Ferrier Hodgson’s retail practice leader and has worked with many retail businesses providing confidential strategic advice, undertaking due diligence assignments and restructuring retail businesses since 1999. He is highly regarded as a key advisor on retail by lenders and financiers to the industry.
James regularly travels overseas studying international retail business models and global trends. He is also often asked to speak at industry seminars about trends in the Australian retail market and the challenges impacting the retail sector.

- The receivership of the Colorado Group (2011).
- The receivership of Australian Discount Retail, Australia’s largest discount variety retailer (2009).
- The administration of the Sportsgirl Sportscraft Group (1999).
- The receiverhsip of Harris Scarfe, the Adelaide-based department store chain (2001).
