John has 25 years experience as a personal insolvency and corporate turnaround professional. He has been a partner at Ferrier Hodgson since 1998, and heads up the firm’s Property and Construction specialisation team.
During his career John has handled assignments in diverse industries, ranging from real estate and property development to retail and IT. His special skill is an ability to walk into a company and apply his analytical skills to identify financial and operational issues and make fast, well-considered decisions. John has a co-operative approach that allows him to negotiate well with all parties.
He is regularly engaged by financiers to assist in the realisation of property assets and holds postgraduate qualifications in both insolvency law and property investment and development.
Key assignments have included:
- Acting as Receiver to Fincorp which returned $100m to more than 6,000 noteholders.
- Working to resolve the dispute between beneficiaries of the deceased estate of mining magnate Lang Hancock.
- The sale of hundreds of properties ranging from single residential to shopping centres and commercial portfolios.
John recently completed a two-year term as the National President of the Insolvency Practitioners Association where he played a major role in the negotiation of insolvency reforms liaising directly with ASIC, Treasury and the ATO. He continues to participate on the National Board of the IPA and is currently the Treasurer and Executive Board member of Insol International.
