Martin was a founding member of Ferrier Hodgson’s Adelaide office when it was established in 1992 and was promoted to Partner in 2001. He took up the role of Managing Partner of the Adelaide Office in 2011, heading a team of six partners and 25 staff.
Martin has more than 20 years experience in all aspects of corporate recovery and advisory across a broad range of industries. In addition to formal insolvency appointments, Martin conducts complex strategic business reviews of large corporates, including publicly listed entities, on behalf of major financial institutions, government and corporate clients. In these roles he regularly provides detailed workout and restructure advice.
Industries that Martin has been involved in recently include retail, manufacturing, hospitality, agribusiness, property, aquaculture and mining. Martin has also held commercial roles in the wine, transport and electricity industries.
Highlights of Martin’s career include restructure and sale of the National Wine Centre on behalf of Government, receivership and successful restructure of Harris Scarfe Ltd.
Martin has been involved in a large number of insolvency administrations, including high profile assignments such as Ed Harry (see below) and Casual Living which were successfully restructured and sold. In addition, Martin was involved in a confidential assignment involving syndicated banking arrangements which resulted in a successful restructure of the company’s facilities and security arrangements.
Key assignments include:
- Voluntary Administrator of Ed Harry, a retail chain of some 122 stores and 600 staff resulting in a going concern sale via a Management Buy Out.
- Receiver and Manager of one of the largest dairy farms in South Australia (2400 head of cattle on 1331 hectares of land) resulting in a going concern sale to an existing operator.
- Reviews of major manufacturers in chemicals, mining and air-conditioning equipment, including international operations.
- Reviews of major tuna ranching, finfish aquaculture businesses and abalone farms, including research and development operations resulting in restructure and refinancing of facilities.
